Been thinking a lot about life, I think for my age, I have way too much to think about life.

Some people say it’s good, some people say I’m crazy but I guess I can’t help either ways. It is just that for my age I have gone through a lot of things people normally won’t, for better or for worse.

I’ve realised I take things seriously, even small things that I should not. I have subscribed to The Economist lately, to my horror or excitement it is a thinly looking 100 page magazine. Having to go through every single line of it and having other self study commitments, I’m as close to a lunatic as one could be.

I’ve been managing my personal finances like a company should, I keep cash balance low, take advantages of payment dates, I make sure excess cash balance is off elsewhere earning higher returns. It sounds just as what everyone should be doing, but next to peers who keep cash balance low by spending it, I think I am in a more robust model.

I take papers instead of Masters or other post-graduate programs partly because of the affordability, but I realise this is lost when you are taking way more than what people normally take. Once again I am on a suicide mission to conquer two more papers other than CFA, this time in an extremely tight deadline, the materials aren’t exactly as crazy as CFA but it is a new thing after all and there’s a lot ground to cover!

I’ve been lost amidst of connecting with people, meeting with people no longer seem worth the time, especially when people either lose their way, arrive late, fail to confirm attendance in a timely manner, ends up NOT turning up and well, I dont know, just refuse to show up on time. Guess the key is, to meet people who are worth the time, and who are worth the disappointment if it doesn’t end well.

A dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow, given that tomorrow is not a massive blackhole that consumes everything.

Been going through quite a funny period really. The great chase of my level 2 exam came to an end, like finally. My PR application date is set in stones and company is already processing my letter. Everything I’ve been working on seem to have came to a hiatus, hopefully not a long one.

I realised that once we are used to working on stuff, we have it engraved in our instincts without knowing it. At the very end of this, have we all became Oxes of the new era? It almost feels like they no longer plough the land, all because we are doing those by our very own.

I’ve been thinking so much lately, most probably because of the massive amounts of old films revisited and books that I’ve been bragging about. I really have lost the idea why we are working so hard and not knowing what to expect. Just lately I started reading the book on Risk Management again, and it says that we do not take risks if we do not think we will succeed. It is counterintuitive, that while we know there are chances of failure or undesirable outcome, we more often than not decide on the decision based on our dreamy outcome.

But if that is the case, why am I a working class saving hard and trying to secure a better future. Especially when the risk I am undertaking leads me to a place literally no man had ever been to?

It seems like we want to make the right choices everyday, but we can’t do so with great certainty, despite how much we want.

My paper is finally over and now I can be like a normal working person, it could be half as bad but at least I get some form of control back of my life!

All the photos in my harddrive are just staring at me knowing one day they’d be forgotten and I wouldn’t even know when to post them.

I do really hope I know how to get my life balance back as soon as possible. Honestly I do not even know how many kilometers I can run as of now, the last attempt was 4 months ago, and I seriously doubt I brought my camera with me anytime during that 4 month period.

Time really does fly and being in the workforce is something still very fresh to me, I think I am still on the right track figuring out what other things I should be involved in to add value to society, and not be focusing just on my paycheck.

Oh wait, I’m just as ready to do my paper!

The designation pursuit takes so much concentration, effort and last but not least, sacrifice. It really really better be worth it. And the quote is right, “Sometimes it means exclusion of everything else”. I really can feel how my life got OFF balance, in all areas, not proud at all about it, but my career, family, and relationship with people in general have all been affected to a certain degree because of it. Partly because I’ve got a very short time for preparation this time, a mere 4 months instead of the usual one year that takes people to complete.

Guess what, it’s less than 2 weeks away wish me luck.

So Here I am again.

I don’t really know what this feels like, everything is just happening blistering fast around me. I felt like I just passed CFA Level 1 and so here it comes the second paper. I kid you not, having barely more than 2 months to study and I am only done till my fourth book, it suddenly seemed justifiable to burn almost 20 days of annual leave just to study for a paper.

Fact of the day: CFA candidates plan to spend at least 300 hours, for a 6-hour paper. Every level.

As much as I hate where I am in workplace, I guess I’d just have to submit to the idea that we all go through the bad phase of things making sure we are really through, so that we won’t have to revisit the phase.

It really does benefit in developing a new personality, as much as the world would see otherwise. Yet, guess who ends up seeing it?

As I feel super connected to heaven today, and as the world would point at me and say I’m an arrogant lad perhaps, I still want to leave this composer with below.

I believe, I am not a waste of time.

Winning feels good, and I like to feel good.

I want to be back in but it is harder than I thought. I don’t know how taking photos became such a luxury and I believe this is really an understatement. Bringing my camera along was such a normal thing to do and there are even people in Melbourne who associate me directly with that. I guess working life is a totally different ball game, it is always about planning ahead.

A lot of things changed from *gasp* my last post, especially this blog, I think it has become a private journal since most people have forgotten about it anyway. I am in a position that holds so much uncertainty, in fact I don’t even know if it is a dead end despite the having all the terms being reasonable. I much rather be with financial models and spreadsheet all day. I have always doubted people who doesn’t believe money is not everything, but I think… I am challenged, so badly.

My watch died… It was a gift from someone special… I guess it should go away altogether, it is right about time. Also I would not trust anything Italian other than their cars, in just 3 years it could malfunction just like that. But I saw something handmade and mechanical, and I am in love again. In fact I am viewing the timepiece tomorrow.

I think I have been busy throughout my life, for good or for bad, computer games or exams, there is rarely a moment of peace. I function on predetermined goals and doesn’t stop for refueling, Looking back at how I prepared for CFA I cannot be any prouder for myself, sacrificing so much of time and valuable opportunities is something unprecedented. I only knew we could succeed in life with priorities set right,yet I never knew priorities meant sacrificing. I even brought my books to funerals I had to attend. That or I am just not a big fan or funerals.

Corporate had minor changes in remuneration system, it came to me like a pay rise and there’s no better news than this. I am a wee bit closer to my purchase of strata title, even though it is fair to say it is too early for anything concrete.

Time to brighten up my dying blog with some photos perhaps?

Time is expensive

It feels weird to be back home. Ever since my job started, life just meant very much little to myself since I gave most of it to my job and my preparation for my paper anyway. Which was by the way, a tormenting 6 hours in total, I came out from the exam hall and could see the sun for like an hour.

For those who heard that working plus studying is the deadliest combination, you got it right. It seem perfectly sane to bring your books on a holiday. Sleep beyond 7 hours seem too costly, and it takes 30 minutes of social networking and youtube to make you feel guilty, ~~which is why I youtube and facebook at work?~~

21 seems a bit premature but I began to look back at my life, realised that I was once crazy about a lot of things, relationship, photography, shopping, yes, and even pc games I was never good at. Nothing seem to stay for too long, even though none of them ever really left. It seems really bad but I am inclined to allow my passion consume myself, it makes me more alive, feels like I am working towards something, feeling less of an underachiever.

Working is a time whereby you lay down all your path verbatim from your imaginariun. For me, I take it with a pinch of salt, I never married the woman I thought I would and said I would, I never did science in Uni, I never got into ANU by 0.25 marks, I did not end up a PR in Australia, and I thought that was what I wanted ever since I was 10 or so, the wild idea nurtured from my mom’s simple question on a trip to Sydney.

I was amused by how things turn out while I was standing on the bus on my way back, I could have waited for 5 minutes until the next bus, so I could sit down on a bus like a normal person, yet I did not, I wanted to go back as early as I could make it. And where was the old guy in me?

I have a lot things I want to pursue now, maybe it is because I don’t like my current job in any way other than a stepping stone, but with enough effort and cold-bloodedness towards myself, I can get both CFA and FRM by end of 2012. I do not know where that takes me, or if there is even any synergy between the two but I got to make something happen. And that become my motto, and that I might have shamelessly quoted from some SC 2 shoutcast.

Some people think I put too much pressure on myself, and they tell me thinking that I do not know about that. I do have family members slowly walking away from the world, healthy or otherwise, one day they all have to leave.

And for myself, lastly, I haven’t done my papers, I haven’t had time to watch Gone with the wind, no time to read “I have no enemies”, "Against the gods” by Peter Bernstein, not even For One More Day, or Purpose Driven Life. Time is a lot more expensive that I thought.

Nope, not a real update… Just to let people know I am still alive.

I miss doing readings in Monash Clayton and State Lib, at least that’s where I get coffee. It slowly became more than just fuel and energy. I miss the instantaneous boost in productivity albeit fleeting.

Being distracted, so distracted from studies. I even updated Chrome, Picasa and Xunlei for no apparent reason, and I moved my taskbar to the right of my desktop.

I don’t know why, maybe December is sooner than I thought.

After 2 months of bunking at people’s room I am finally back home. Do not really see myself having a lot of time for other stuff, in actual fact I do not even have enough time for stuff I am supposed to do? The curriculum is really like a jealous girlfriend who leaves you no time for just anything at all.

Currently very split between KL and Singapore, both seem equally good and promising and I do not really know what I want as of now. Despite that, I am very likely taking up the first employer that nods his head. This transition period is just like a limbo for me, and it really isn’t exactly enjoyable.

13,000 shots taken and I think it is really time to move on. Joshua bought my 400D from me, even as I type now I remember how frustrated I was in KL looking for a seller that would let me have a good price, it was almost twice my original budget!

Yes the photos are not full-frame, it gives me unwanted noise most of the time, its too small even for my small hands and the viewfinder was as big as a peep hole. Yet it still brought me through (and I also brought it) a lot of good and bad times. Since I was so new I practically brought it everywhere I go!

It amazes me sometimes by how it is so reliable and simplistic to operate, but now the idea of having a spare camera just doesn’t fancy myself just as much as before. Life’s totally hectic right now and all I bring along with me is book I need to study, guess there’s really little reason for it to stay.

Times where I just linger around the city looking for good light, it was so fresh and enjoyable I wish I could have the same experience once more.

I’m still very glad, looking at the rate-of-blasting from Joshua, I’m pretty sure good stuff would come out that little camera!

In relation to that, I am also letting go another item.

The ~~legendary~~ Canon EF-S 18-200mm.

As you can see from the picture, the mount is only for 1.6X crop sensors (no actually you cannot see from the picture), I have to sell it off too because it is not doing anything right now.

It truly is the contender for travellers, the beauty of packing every single lens you’d need on a trip into this one little lens is one of the reasons I purchased it earlier. It really have served me well especially for my time in Melbourne!

This lens has got nothing but good reviews. Google it!

I still love it.

It’s been a season of interpretation for me, a time for me to push infatuations apart from love. I’ve pretty much been bogged down by work and it won’t stop until week 12. I’m kind of excited to study for finals, it is a real final for me. Don’t worry I am not prepared to fail at all.

I do miss those days where I can really hang around in the city for one whole day, just meeting people up and catch up, it was as if I had no studies to attend to. Praying for certain stuff now… and they are great stuff!

Pardon me for the cheesy title and coming photos that probably would not make sense. This year somehow I had nothing much to shoot, it is not that I lost interest in photography, it is that I lost interest in photographing certain stuff. They are just… meaningless to shoot.

I am really thankful for this roadtrip, I think it was just what I needed, and what a timing to have a road trip right after the ~~disappointing~~ fray. It is not just the ticket I wasted that is bugging me, I think I kind of lost respect for the band.

My easter break hasn’t exactly been a break, it is so so tiring and this is only tip of the iceberg because conference have never been an easy job.

I’m deeply challenged by this assignment, after years and years in this course, this is definitely the toughest for me, it sucks to know that you are facing something you don’t know where you’d tackle from. I don’t know how it will end up for me but I hope it will end well, and I got a lot more to go for this.

Been a lot places, heard a lot more stuff from people, well the old stuff never gets changed for even a bit too? :)

This is just how many photos are, possibly not, or highly unlikely the best work around. Yet I like to keep it this way, for the so-called TW photography would stay in existence for a reason, and perhaps, perhaps one day it would make an impact, in someone’s life.

I know it’s nothing big, but honestly, for almost 3 years of studying in Klang Valley I never took this place too seriously hence I never dropped by.

For what it is known for, the Chinese New Year decoration is pretty much like a Chinese restaurant without pork.

I thought I should have hanged around a bit longer.

After climbing through fences, sneaking through guards, leaping over drains and crawling through sewages, We got to this place… minimalism at it’s best, not only the menus are printed on plain white(??) paper, it wasn’t even stapled.

Does anyone think slow spinning ceiling fans look VERY nostalgic?

Also note that I am not sure if I took all the shots! We kept passing the camera around.

I haven’t been able to find time and/or wi-fi to blog, I stayed in KL for ten days without realising.

It was all really random, Wei Xiong texted me 12 plus, asking if I am interesting in shooting Thaipusam for fun and I was only given 4 hours of notice, but what the hell, I turned up anyway!

It was really exhilarating for me, I never really shot stuff like this, the closest thing was my trip to Chiang Mai during their lantern festival but I was really really new.

It was really exciting to shoot Thaipusam, you get a lot of emotions and people generally don’t mind photos being taken, at least from what I experience ~~or did not~~.

Climbing up the stairs was not tough… bearing the smell, definitely was! This trip really showed me a lot limitations in my camera… I was however totally fine with just having just one lens for the day.

Personal favourite of the day.

Just like Wei Xiong, I don’t think I am ever going to do this again… My first and last Thaipusam shoot!

A shot taken today outside the betting booth, probably waiting for her dad to get the tickets. I loved it! albeit blur.

It was 6 plus, I found the weather tolerable, saw some good light from the sky, grabbed my bag and ran(ok, drove) out of the house. I was surprised I got so many shots in a town far too mediocre to be bothered.

Of course there is more but the main point of this post is to clarify that… some random negative stuff on my blog… As ironically as it sounds, do not always apply to my life, just random thoughts… Like the previous post, you would NOT know how dumb it is to take photo of yourself sleeping on a 30 second shutter. The insomnia was real and the “inspiration” of the photo.

Some people grow up to be fire fighters, some grow up to be scientists. We talked about dreams unfulfilled… how secular affairs like society, money and public perception blocked them away. Instead of doing what you always wanted, you could be cooped up in dull grey cubicles working your best times away.

I apologise to myself for self inducing a hunger to upgrade my equipments. I have decided to let a hobby be a hobby, guess it wouldn’t cut as a hobby if I created an urgency myself… and equipment could limit my work, only if I let it be. At the end of the day, photographs are made wonderful when people see it well, not when they snap well.

This is my baby cousin who I… just met, yeah when he was born I was in Melbourne. Despite his size, he is actually just 8 months old, when he was born he was twice of what usual babies weigh.

I really like how he only has fourth teeth showing now. Still don’t think he is cute?

2010? I don’t even know why I am not sleeping early, I find no reason to sleep early, no reason to stay up late either. Yet somehow there is a concentration beyond words during midnight.

I’m about done finding my companion for red wine, there is actually a decent place in Pontian for red wine. It is SO HARD to find someone in common.

I confess, I have been a tad lazy to create images, now I just blast a few frames on Program and I start eating (because that is the only apparent thing I shoot in Pontian) and also the fact that I only dine (as if I eat very formally but au contraire) in a few selected places, so much for variation I know…

My self reading on CFA text on holiday was an epic failure, I did possibly a meagre amount of it and I am not wielding them too well. I am just… letting holidays be holidays. I know one day my procrastination would come back to haunt me, some of these days…

Malaysian food are still far too spicy for my liking. Nothing against spiciness, I know it adds thrill and excitement to the food but to tell the truth, it is just a sensation of heat, there is not much taste to itself, or maybe I just haven’t learnt how to appreciate it.

I love my dogs. It never failed to baffle me simply looking at the photo taken when they were new born and what they are today, from tiny frail creatures until the brave and strong companions of today.

I really see myself keeping a Husky in the future!

New year doesn’t mean much to me, at least not as much as normal people I know. I only know in 2 months I will be back in University rushing through mundane assignments.

Guess how I spent my Christmas eve?

Coming back home… is almost like hitting yourself back to square one. Back to the fallen days, it is late and I just sometimes refuse to go home, and face a computer like I do now. Or you could say I am in self denial, I do not want to admit that I do not have as much friends as people thought.

And when you feel like having a swing at someone, you drive 10 K’s to the nearest driving range and make it into something fruitful. A lot of people have been telling me it is an old men’s sport but I think it is still a better sport than stereotyping. It really feels good to discover how letting out all you have, is not by brute force on it.

I saw my photos, I think most of them are horrible, I seriously don’t know how you guys could stand my photos. Thanks to you guys, really. They are so lousy I could hardly justify an upgrade for myself now.

I got to meet a lot of friends, seeing them… different from what I am. They got one thing that set apart from myself, commitments. A lot of them are either married, about to marry or as good as married. Damn, it makes me look like a kid in front of them.

I went onto Monash portal only to see 4 units enrolled for my coming semester, rubbed my eyes to make sure I wasn’t seeing things and I really wasn’t.

I got them… Just like that… No more extended semester(s) or whatsoever. Just another guy with a stupid hat donned in the harry potter graduation robe, or do you call it a gown? Either way you call it, it is funny. My real holiday starts now!

Tomorrow the faculty will assess my SECOND application sent in… behind bureaus are the ugly faces… I really hope I would get what I want. Don’t even think it could be what I need, I do NOT need an extra semester I do not deserve and I won’t.

After a short trip to Desaru ~~without bringing my camera~~, we decided to take Meko for a short walk at the beach, which dog does not love hanging out right?

She’s charming isn’t it? Even Malays who normally don’t like dogs couldn’t turn their eyes away from her. She is 42 in dog years!

At the dawn of life

A family friend passed away last night. He had people who cared for him, yet he died on bed not having anyone at the bedside. After months and months of chemotherapy.

It is not too much to say he was more than a brother to my grandfather. Imagine having a friend for 70 years.

Death, you don’t make sense. We know we have to face it one day, so inevitable yet we refuse to accept. I always thought as much as it is a natural part of the cycle of life, it is just not the baby shower, not 21st birthday, not the wedding.

It is not you who left the world, it is about the people you have left behind in this world…

Perhaps death is more saddening for people around you, than it is to yourself who left without worries.
